Dover Precision Components is hiring a Field Service Engineer for our FW Murphy Production Controls brand. We provide a company vehicle and tools. This is a customer-facing support role with up to 70% weekly travel possible, not all overnight depending on your location. Best home, base given customer locations, is Midland/Odessa TX to Carlsbad NM.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will serve as a critical technical resource supporting customers utilizing FW Murphy’s Engine & Integrated Control Systems (EICS), with a primary focus on large horsepower engine applications in the oil and gas industry. This role is highly field-oriented and customer-facing, responsible for supporting installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of control systems in real-world operating environments. The FSE partners closely with customers, engineering, and internal support teams to ensure system reliability, performance, and strong overall customer experience. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and support installation, startup, and commissioning of EICS solutions on large horsepower engines (e.g., CAT, Waukesha, etc.)
  • Ensure proper configuration, calibration, and functionality of control systems and related components
  • Verify system performance against design specifications and customer requirements
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, controls, and system-level issues in field environments
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers and internal teams
  • Analyze system data and trends to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, delivering a high level of responsiveness and professionalism
  • Provide training and guidance to operators, technicians, and customer personnel
  • Support long-term customer relationships through consistent, high-quality service
  • Partner with Engineering, Application Support, and Product teams to communicate field feedback and drive product improvements
  • Document service activities, technical findings, and resolutions clearly and accurately
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and best practices

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or electrical technology. Work experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree

  • 3+ years of experience in field service, controls, or industrial systems support

  • Experience in large horsepower engines or similar industrial equipment

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical systems, control systems, and instrumentation

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently (up to ~50-75%, depending on business needs)

ALSO GREAT IF YOU BRING/ PREFERENCES

  • Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI/SCADA systems
  • Familiarity with EICS products or similar engine control systems
  • Background in oil & gas, compression, or power generation environments
  • Experience with engine control panels, ignition systems, and air/fuel ratio control
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus, CAN-BUS, Ethernet/IP, etc.)

Work Arrangement: Remote with travel

Salary: $75,000- $90,000 Base salary. This position is bonus eligible.
