Chico State

California State University, Chico, commonly known as Chico State, is a public university located in Chico, California. Founded in 1887, it is the second-oldest campus in the California State University system and the sixth-oldest public higher education institution in the state. The university began with a donation of land from General John Bidwell and opened its doors to 90 students and five faculty members. Over the years, it has evolved through several name changes and now serves approximately 17,500 students. Chico State offers around 300 degree programs across various disciplines, including bachelor's, master's, and certificate programs. The university has a strong emphasis on teacher education, alongside programs in sciences and agriculture. The campus spans 132 acres and includes historical sites and ecological reserves, reflecting its commitment to preserving the heritage of the Mechoopda people. With a student/faculty ratio of 22:1 and an average undergraduate class size of 31, Chico State is dedicated to providing accessible higher education.
