About this Job
The Center for Mathematical Artificial Intelligence (CMAI) is a research center under the Department of Mathematics and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in CUHK. For the development and flourishment of forefront artificial intelligence technologies, we are committed to providing a platform on which various research scientists from different fields and areas can carry out research with rigorous mathematics.
CMAI is recruiting Post-doctoral Fellow(s) / Research Associate(s) to join an interdisciplinary research initiative focused on Mathematical Foundations of Autonomous Intelligence Agent. This project pioneers the development of next-generation self-motivated Vision-Language-Agent (VLA) models, with an emphasis on mathematical interpretability, causal reasoning, and physically-aware learning for real-world application.
Applicants should have (i) a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; (ii) demonstrated research expertise in one or more of the following areas: multimodal large models, causal inference, reinforcement learning, or mathematical foundations of deep learning; (iii) proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Llama-Factory); (iv) excellent analytical, communication, and mentorship skills; (v) the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary setting; and (vi) a strong publication record in top-tier AI/ML conferences or journals are a strong plus (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR).
Duties include (a) leading fundamental research on the mathematical interpretability of multimodal foundation models, including the analysis of attention mechanisms and latent representations; (b) investigating advanced topics in scene understanding, behavioral cognition, and causal inference within dynamic industrial environments; (c) developing novel methodologies for multimodal representation alignment, state prediction, and temporal dynamics modeling; (d) assisting in design and implement reinforcement learning strategies with mathematical guarantees for safety and efficiency; (e) collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to translate theoretical frameworks into practical, deployable AI systems; (f) publishing high-impact research in top-tier conferences and journals; and (g) mentoring junior researchers and contributing to grant writing and project reporting.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to two years, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
Applicants should submit a complete curriculum vitae with a full list of publications in the online application.
