Description
Summary/Objective
The Quality Technician is responsible for performing and documenting FAIs, receiving, in-process and final inspection to ensure product conforms to all applicable requirements.
Essential Functions
- Applies knowledge of GD&T and Metrology principles to perform inspection to ensure products meet requirements.
- Resolve issues and answer questions from Operators as well as from Inspectors and Engineers.
- Train other inspectors and technicians.
- Participate in special projects related to tooling fixtures and gages.
- Identifies cost reduction projects utilizing Lean Manufacturing principle.
- Create CMM programs using part drawings or models and perform inspections as required.
- Assist with creation of instructions for using inspection tools and systems.
- Provide inspection support to all departments in the organization, perform part inspection and FAIs.
- Perform other responsibilities as required.
Requirements
Competencies
- Knowledge of reading blueprints and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of mechanical inspection and proficiency in the use of manual & visual inspection equipment: e.g., calipers, gauges, micrometers, digital indicators, surface plates, optical comparators, microscopes, coordinate measuring machine, profilometers, hardness/durometer testers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, in English, data entry skills and detail oriented.
- Ability to work in a team environment and to foster positive relationships with all functional groups.
- Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Office).
- Understands travelers and work instructions.
- Strong desire to learn and to apply new skills.
- Problem solving ability with an organized & analytical approach.
- Proven ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to ever-changing fast-paced environment.
Supervisory Responsibility None
Work Environment This job operates in a manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses shop floor tools and machinery.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work
- Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications
- Frequently required to sit, stand, move about the shop floor, talk, hear, bend and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to squat or kneel occasionally
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time hourly position and operates Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm.
Travel
Occasional (Less than 5%)
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Knowledge on metrology programs and strong working knowledge of GD&T (read and interpret).
- 4 years experience in a manufacturing environment and mechanical Inspection of precision part
- 4 years experience with inspection equipment and tools.
- Experience using CMM and Vision System.
