Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Join us for an exciting summer! We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Accessories team as a Process Engineer Intern.
As a Process Engineer Intern, you will be exposed to hands-on design, process improvement, and manufacturing support initiatives within a production environment. This role offers the opportunity to apply engineering fundamentals to real-world manufacturing challenges while gaining experience in CAD design, process documentation, risk analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.
In this role, you will support the engineering and process teams by working on small-scale design projects, developing detailed CAD models and drawings, assisting with the creation and transition of work instructions, and supporting manufacturing process improvements. You will collaborate closely with engineers and the fabrication shop to ensure accurate implementation, while gaining practical experience in problem-solving, documentation, and production-focused engineering workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the engineering team on small-scale design projects, including fixtures and tool modifications to improve manufacturing processes
- Develop detailed CAD models and drawings and assist with design reviews and documentation
- Collaborate with the fabrication shop to support accurate implementation of design solutions
- Assist process engineers in developing work instructions and setting up sheets for new manufacturing equipment
- Participate in process reviews and conduct FMEA (risk analysis) to identify potential failure modes
- Photograph processes and build functional work instructions based on findings
- Establish a management system for End-Of-Arm Tooling used in injection-molded accessory parts
- Support the transition to electronic work instructions by reviewing existing documentation for accuracy and coordinating updates with process engineering
Internship Goals:
- To understand the fundamentals of basic design based on feedback from a customer and then creating a functional design that will be manufactured and implemented in production.
- To understand the risks involved in commissioning a new piece of equipment and developing a process from scratch. This will require conducting a risk analysis to determine possible failure points in daily operation and how to mitigate risks before they become actualized.
- To communicate with entities outside of the department. This includes taking on customer requirements and communicating with vendors outside of STIHL to complete an objective.
