Propel your career at Belden, where innovation creates possibilities—for our people, our customers, and the communities we serve. We connect people, information, and ideas to solve the world’s most complex connectivity challenges, turning curiosity into meaningful impact. Here, you’ll take on work that challenges you, supports your growth, and empowers you to shape what’s next. You’ll collaborate with global teams, gain diverse perspectives, and contribute to solutions that extend beyond our business—creating value in the world around us.

Together, we are shaping the future of digitization and paving the way for the next generation of innovation.

Join us as we continue to grow! We are currently hiring for the following position in the Innovation department at Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, located in Neckartenzlingen: Intern (m/f/d) - MCP Server Implementation for an Embedded-Linux Network Switch

What you will do:

  • Implement an MCP server running on embedded Linux (target: network switch platform)
  • Design and implement read-only “tools” for network diagnostics, e.g.:
    • Interface status & counters (link, speed/duplex, errors, drops)
    • MAC address table lookups
    • ARP/neighbor information
    • Routing table / L3 interface state (where applicable)
    • Basic connectivity checks (e.g., ping, traceroute – if permitted)
    • Log/event extraction (bounded, filtered)
  • Create a troubleshooting-oriented interaction flow:
    • Map user prompts → tool calls → structured results → summarised diagnosis
    • Produce actionable outputs (e.g., “link down”, “CRC errors increasing”, “VLAN mismatch likely”)

Requirements:

  • Student of IT or similar
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken and, preferably, knowledge of German
  • Basic L2/L3 networking knowledge
  • Comfortable working in Linux (shell, processes, files, permissions)
  • Programming experience in C/C++ or Rust
  • Build tooling: Make (and basic familiarity with gcc/clang toolchains)
  • Git experience (source control)

Let’s Create Possibilities Together.

Join a global community shaping the future of intelligent connectivity. At Belden, you’ll help push the boundaries of technology and write the next chapter of innovation, creating possibilities for your career, your future, and the world around you.
