Job Summary:
The Instrument Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of instrumentation and control systems in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all instrumentation and process control systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry regulations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair instrumentation, control systems, and electronic equipment used in manufacturing processes.
- Calibrate and configure instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and analyzers.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in process control equipment, using diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
- Interpret and update technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and control logic diagrams.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on instruments and control systems to minimize downtime.
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, environmental policies, and industry standards.
- Assist in system upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement projects.
- Collaborate with engineers, maintenance teams, and production staff to resolve issues and improve system reliability.
- Maintain accurate records of calibration, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Train operators and technicians on the proper use and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree or certification in Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of [X] years of experience in instrumentation and controls within a manufacturing, industrial, or process plant environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, ISO, FDA, GMP) preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&ID diagrams.
- Hands-on experience with calibration tools, digital multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
- Ability to lift up to [X] lbs and work in various environmental conditions (e.g., confined spaces, heights, hot/cold environments).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a food, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) and automated process controls.
- Certification as an Instrumentation Technician (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician) is a plus.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with rotating shifts, including weekends and on-call availability as needed.
