Freeport Press is seeking an Industrial Controls Technician / Industrial Electrician to support, install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the electrical, electronic, and automated control systems used throughout our production facilities.

This position focuses heavily on industrial electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, automation, electronic controls, VFDs, motors, sensors, and machine-control systems. The ideal candidate is a strong electrical troubleshooter who enjoys diagnosing equipment problems, identifying root causes, and working with modern automated manufacturing equipment.

While the primary focus of this position is electrical and automation systems, the technician will work as part of the Maintenance Department and may assist with mechanical and general maintenance needs when required.

Requirements

Responsibilities

· Work an 8-hour shift with occasional overtime and call-in support as needed.

· Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical and electronic systems on production equipment.

· Diagnose problems involving PLCs, I/O systems, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, motors, encoders, sensors, relays, contactors, safety circuits, and other machine-control components.

· Troubleshoot automated machinery using electrical schematics, PLC status information, HMI diagnostics, fault histories, and other available diagnostic tools.

· The ability to connect to PLC and automation systems to assist with troubleshooting, fault identification, and equipment recovery is a plus.

· Troubleshoot industrial communication and control networks used between PLCs, drives, HMIs, remote I/O, and other automated equipment.

· Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and equipment manuals.

· Troubleshoot VDC control circuits and industrial AC electrical systems.

· Diagnose and repair electrical problems involving motors, motor starters, VFDs, control transformers, power supplies, and machine-control circuits.

· Replace, configure, and assist with the setup of electrical and electronic components.

· Perform electrical and automation-related preventive and predictive maintenance.

· Identify recurring equipment failures and assist with determining and correcting root causes.

· Assist with machine upgrades, equipment installations, control-system improvements, and automation projects.

· Safely use digital multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and other electrical diagnostic equipment.

· Document repairs, troubleshooting findings, equipment changes, and completed work through the company's maintenance/work-order system.

· Work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, equipment manufacturers, and outside technical support when troubleshooting complex equipment problems.

· Follow electrical safety practices, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and all company safety requirements.

· Maintain a clean and organized work area.

· Assist other members of the Maintenance Department with mechanical or facility maintenance when needed.

Knowledge and Skills

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Technical, electrical, electronics, automation, or industrial maintenance education preferred.

· Previous industrial electrical, controls, automation, or maintenance experience preferred.

· Strong understanding of industrial electrical and electronic control systems.

· Working knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery and the ability to use PLC diagnostic information to troubleshoot equipment problems.

· Familiarity with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Nikki Denso, Yaskawa, and Parker automation and drive systems is a plus.

· Familiarity with VFDs, servo drives, HMIs, encoders, proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, safety devices, and industrial control components.

· Ability to read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics and ladder diagrams.

· Understanding of electrical control circuits, including relays, contactors, motor starters, power supplies, and control transformers.

· Ability to safely and effectively use electrical test and diagnostic equipment.

· Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills.

· Ability to systematically troubleshoot electrical and electronic problems to the component, device, wiring, or control-system level rather than relying solely on component replacement.

· Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new automation platforms and software.

· Ability to troubleshoot logically and work through complex or intermittent equipment problems.

· Mechanical aptitude sufficient to understand how electrical and automation systems interact with production machinery.

· Strong communication and documentation skills.

· Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of the maintenance and production team.

· Knowledge of industrial safety practices and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
