Engineering Technician – Vehicle Systems (Contract)
Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Onsite) Pay: $45–$50 per hour Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week Contract role | Two-stage onsite interview
Overview We are hiring an experienced Engineering Technician to support hands-on vehicle buildouts, test rigs, and engineering platforms for next-generation vehicle systems. This is a highly practical, lab-based role supporting rapid deployment of Gen2 vehicle technology. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical skills and is comfortable troubleshooting complex systems in a fast-paced engineering environment.
This is not a desk role. Hands-on experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and modify mechanical and electrical prototypes, including wiring and cable harnesses
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of vehicle systems, sensors, computers, and power components
- Diagnose failures, perform root cause analysis, and support calibration activities
- Support vehicle test rigs, lab platforms, and prototype builds
- Execute rework, repairs, and component replacements as needed
- Track and manage tools, parts inventory, and component procurement
- Work closely with engineering teams to minimize vehicle downtime and accelerate testing
- Follow lab safety, documentation, and build standards consistently
Core Requirements (Must-Have)
- 2+ years of hands-on technical experience in a lab, shop, vehicle, robotics, or assembly environment
- Strong mechanical and electrical assembly experience
- Proven experience building prototypes, wiring systems, and cable harnesses
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and datasheets
- Experience troubleshooting electromechanical systems and computer-controlled hardware
- Comfortable using shop tools, test equipment, and diagnostic tools
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills
- Ability to work onsite full-time in Sunnyvale, CA
Highly Preferred Experience (Nice-to-Have)
- Automotive, autonomous vehicle, or advanced vehicle systems experience
- Familiarity with sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, radar, and related AV hardware
- Experience with soldering, crimping, and connector standards
- Exposure to Python, Linux, or ROS environments
- Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks
- Familiarity with 3D printers and rapid prototyping tools
