Automation Technician

We are actively seeking an Automation Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will reside in either King of Prussia or Lancaster, PA. As an Automation Technician with HRG, you will provide hands‑on technical and field support for municipal and industrial automation and control systems. This role is primarily field‑based and supports system startup, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing operational needs under the direction of experienced professionals. You will work closely with clients, engineers, integrators, electricians, operators, and contractors to support critical infrastructure projects that serve our communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support startup, commissioning, and functional testing of automation and control systems at treatment plants, pump stations, buildings, and remote facilities
- Assist with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems, including configuration support, testing, and troubleshooting under the direction of experienced professionals
- Perform loop checks, I/O verification, and signal testing for instrumentation and control devices
- Assist with troubleshooting of control panels, sensors, communication systems, and field devices
- Support system maintenance, upgrades, repairs, and optimization activities
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to testing, system changes, field observations, and record information
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, system integrators, control panel fabricators, electricians, operators, and contractors during construction and startup activities
- Support installation, inspection, and calibration of instrumentation including level, flow, pressure, analytical sensors, etc.
- Follow applicable electrical, industrial, and facility safety procedures while working at active sites
- Support field activities, site visits, and inspections, and assist with related project documentation as needed
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in engineering technology or relevant field experience
- 0–2 years of experience in AEC, construction, automation, or technical support roles
- Hands‑on exposure to automation systems such as PLCs, HMI/SCADA, industrial sensors, instrumentation, or controls/electrical troubleshooting preferred
- Ability to read and interpret plans, electrical diagrams, and technical documents
- Familiarity with industrial communication networks and protocols preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs., as required
- Effective utilization of common business platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting tools, project management systems, etc.
- Flexibility to travel to job sites, meetings, and other offices as necessary, which will include overnight stays
- Valid US Driver’s License is required
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
