SUMMARY:
Primary Role: Applies electrical theory, Ohm's Law, electrical code fundamentals, and controls/instrumentation knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and improve electrical systems, control circuits, and process instrumentation supporting production operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems including motors, starters, contactors, relays, control power, and field wiring in accordance with safe work practices and LOTO.
- Diagnose control circuit and panel issues using electrical prints, schematics, and loop diagrams; verify terminations and labeling.
- Support PLC-controlled equipment by troubleshooting discrete/analog I/O, sensors, and actuators.
- Perform PLC installation support and basic programming changes as authorized; assist with process troubleshooting and recovery.
- Maintain and troubleshoot variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and motor control center (MCC) components.
- Calibrate, loop-check, verify, and document process instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow, level, etc.) to ensure signal integrity from field device to PLC/HMI.
- Provide technical electrical and instrumentation expertise for plant operations; respond to downtime events and restore equipment to safe operation.
- Assist the Engineering department when reviewing/modernizing outdated electrical and instrumentation components.
- Install/replace electrical and instrumentation components and test systems to verify correction of malfunction.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks that are provided through eMaint/CMMS.
- Perform preventive maintenance checks and scheduled calibrations; record all data as assigned.
- Inspect and test circuits/components to detect overheating, loose connections, drift, wear, or other issues.
- Remove and replace defective electrical/instrument components; verify safe and reliable operation after repair.
- Must follow all GMPs, SOPs and maintain a current understanding of the regulation and requirements of applicable agencies.
- Train new hires.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 5 years industrial electrical and instrumentation experience.
- Basic skills test required. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of electrical theory, motors/motor controls, and safe troubleshooting practices.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting, HMI/controls systems, VFDs, and process instrumentation preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with PLC programming, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in a food industry preferred.
- Must have the ability to use standard electrical test and calibration tools (e.g., DMM, loop calibrator) and maintain good hand-eye coordination.
- Proven record of ability to handle equipment safely and sensibly.
- Detail oriented, with the ability to make accurate measurements and sensitive adjustments to instruments and controls.
- Must be team-oriented with the ability to work with others and without direct supervision.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to adjust schedule to provide specialized electrical and instrumentation support through all shifts.
