Position Summary

The Specialist -Control Technician will manage and assist with PLC and automated systems troubleshooting and maintenance. The technician will also assist with installation, implementation, and troubleshooting of newly designed systems. They are responsible for managing work orders and projects. They may be responsible for delegating some workload as needed and ensure work orders are completely fully and timely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the order system to manage assigned work orders
  • Ensure assigned work orders are completed in a timely fashion
  • Troubleshoot problems in electrical control panels, sensors, and other automation hardware
  • Delegate work as appropriate to assistant technicians to ensure proper completion of work
  • Manage and execute projects to ensure completion by desired deadlines
  • Responsible for cross-departmental communication to ensure jobs are completed
  • Respond to all necessary communications such as via email and phone calls for support across the greenhouse
  • Maintain the operation of PLC/Argus systems, making programming changes as required
  • Monitor PLC/Argus systems for alarms and correct issues expediently as they arise
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Understanding of electrical control circuits and hardware (relays, contactors, overloads, switches, etc.)
  • Experience using multimeters (voltmeter, amp meter, Megger, etc.)
  • Ability to make minor and/or major modifications to PLC/Argus programs as requested.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in working with PLC/Argus system software (GE, Horner, Omron, etc).
  • Experience creating and modifying PLC/Argus programs.
  • Ability to create HMI/SCADA system screens.
  • Proficient in creating schematics and wiring diagrams using Microsoft Visio.
  • Experience building control panels based off schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Associates degree in electrical engineering, Automation Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant certifications or training in PLC programming, automation systems, or electrical control systems is a plus.

Job Setting & Physical Demands

This position is primarily outdoors but may be required to work between locations and within an indoor office environment for administrative duties, which may require the use of computers and standard office equipment. Fluency to read, write, and understand the English language is required. Must be able to work in all outdoor elements, including dust and allergens. Position requires long-term ability for standing, sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting on a regular basis to fulfill essential duties. Candidate must have the ability to operate all machinery necessary within the department and across the facility, including but not limited to operating the table lifter and get certified and operate on internal vehicles. Candidate will also be regularly required to work at heights above 6 feet.

Employee must have the ability to life 35 pounds unaided, and regularly lift up to 80 pounds with assistance.
