Job Summary: The Automation Technician provides plant wide technical support for automation and data acquisition systems. The role will also provide foundational support in the execution of automation projects, assisting with key tasks towards successful project implementation.

The main goal of this position is to assist with technical support for systems plant wide including normal hours and after-hours support. They will also contribute to the successful implementation of automation projects, bug fixes, and improvements under the guidance of senior team members.

** Responsibilities**

  • Provide technical support for control systems throughout the facility including after-hours support.  Position is involved in projects, but day-to-day support is the key aspect.
  • Troubleshoot and debug existing controls packages for optimal performance.  This includes troubleshooting of PLC's, HMI's, Drive’s, Ladder Logic, Industrial Networks, Data Systems, Cameras, NVR’s, etc.
  • Apply basic engineering principles to assist in analyzing technical issues within our systems and proposing/implementing solutions.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of intuitive and user-friendly HMI's to interface with operators.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of controls programs, configurations, best practices, and changes
  • Create and maintain backups of critical control PLC's, HMI's, and PCs.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring clear and effective communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited program, preferred
  • Entry level to three years of experience, preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment (ex. Internship or Group Project participation)
  • Ability to pass pre-employment testing under specific area of discipline
  • Willingness to learn and multi-task
  • Ability to adapt to a new environment
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) with the ability to adapt communication styles to different audiences
  • Effective time management with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in standard controls programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams.
  • Experience working with PLC’s or other control systems such as Siemens, Modicon, Allen-Bradley or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in data acquisition systems such as AVEVA PI and/or ibaPDA preferred
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and associated communication protocols (e.g., TIA568B, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, TCP/UDP, Ethernet/IP) preferred
