Position: Automation Technician - Programmer **Reports to:**AutomationManager Location: Various
Job Brief:
The Automation Technician - Programmer is responsible for implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining all automation equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, training and diagnostics on various equipment including ROC, SCADA Pack, SCADA Cloud, Control Logix, Allen- Bradley, Bristol Babcock, Factorytalk View, Various HMI Units, and other automation systems
- Develop advanced Programmable Logic Control designs and algorithms for control applications
- Integration of SCADA software with Control Systems
- Maintain PLCs, HMIs, and Measurement network and software components
- Maintain Process Control Domain, virtual machines and physical servers
- Monitor logs, run scans; Perform user administration, updates, testing and antivirus applications
- Assist with documentation and standards creation; Maintain integrity of control network including licensing
- Manage and assist in the planning and bidding of Automation projects
- Install control system instrumentation and electrical equipment
- Research and provide troubleshooting solutions and automation improvements/upgrades
- Commissioning and startup of artificial lift systems (gas lift, ESPs, jet pumps, pumping units)
- Commissioning and startup of production facilities, midstream systems, and freshwater systems
- Vapor Recovery Unit (VRU) commissioning and optimization
- Execution of special projects (meter trials, new equipment trials, facility swaps)
- I&E service support for new facility installations and startups
- Identify suitable automation control devices
- Installation and maintenance of measurement systems
- Travel to other locations across the USA as required
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- 3+ years Control and Automation programming
- Registered Journeyman Instrumentation Technician / Electrician; Electronics Technology, Controls and Automation Diploma
- Strong SCADA experience required
- Oil and Gas Operations experience and maintenance knowledge required
- Ability to read and interpret operating/maintenance manuals and electrical schematics
- Skills in radio and communication networking; technical writing skills
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Valid passport
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
- Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
- Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Techs standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
