The Automation Programmer, R&D is responsible for for developing a ladder logic program to control packaging machinery, within a given timeframe, in alignment with internal prepared user requirement specification (URS) using creativity and innovation. 

Your role in our team

  • Consider all design possibilities to build an innovative, robust and cost competitive product
  • Perform formal DFMEA with the design team and develop tests to validate new developed technological solution based on the risk assessment
  • Design and maintain electrical schematics and control panels using EPlan, improve controls processes, enforce design standards, and ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes as needed
  • Work with mechanical engineers to develop machine process
  • Create programs to control machinery and components using Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000 software and B&R Automation Studio using ladder logic and structured text
  • Create Human Machine Interface (HMI) programs using Allen Bradley RSView Studio software
  • Communicate and interact with colleagues in a positive and professional manner
  • Review safety circuit and program to ensure a safe machine is developed
  • Provide suggestions for design improvements or changes during all phases of machine design
  • Assist with developing electrical standards compliant to all appropriate national and international standards (including but not limited to UL code, NEC, EE, CE, IEE, CSA, etc.)
  • Integrate third party equipment into machine functions
  • Work with the R&D team to troubleshoot any program errors
  • Review the operating manuals prepared by the technical writer to ensure accuracy and reduce service calls
  • Develop, in collaboration with Körber sister companies, standardized machine interface as required
  • Travel as required to support the research, design, development, testing,, and demonstration of new and innovative products
  • Support the transition of product knowledge from R&D to production, with the appropriate departments.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Show a strong eagerness to learn and a positive attitude everyday
  • Attend and participate in company meetings
  • Work on special projects as needed
  • Take responsibility across divisions for assigned tasks and topics

Your profile

  • B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Robotics/Automation Engineering required or equivalent
  • Experience in programming PLC’s, robots, and operator interfaces preferred
  • Experience with writing ladder logic programs preferred
  • Familiarity with other programming languages a plus
  • Experience in manufacturing environment preferred
  • Take responsibility across divisions for assigned tasks and topics
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley and B&R PLC, HMI, and servo systems
  • Demonstrates computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrates a brilliant imagination
  • Capable of developing new concepts and standards
  • Ability to think ahead and plan over a 3 – 6 month time span
  • Exhibits clear communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Displays great attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Shows organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Exhibits troubleshooting skills, both mechanical and electrical
  • Must be able to make good decisions independently
  • Displays desire to support continual product improvement
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year
