What we need We are looking for anAdvanced Functional Safety Engineerto join ourFunctional Safetyteam within ourEngineeringorganization. Your job will be to act as a "builder" within a newly formed group, moving beyond following existing procedures toarchitectingthe processes that will define our future. You will own complex projects frominceptionto completion, creating your own timelines and influencing cross-functional teams to integrate safety into some of the world's most interesting automation technologies.

What we do TheFunctional Safety Teamis part of theProduct Development Organization, whichis responsible forthe end-to-end safety lifecycle of our AI-powered robotics. Because we are a new group, we are currently building the foundation for howSymbotichandles functional safety at scale. Wedon’tjust apply standards; we find unique, innovative ways to integrate them intocutting-edgerobotic systems that have never been built before.

Whatyou’lldo

• **Take Full Ownership:**Lead safety-critical projects from start to finish, including the creation and management of project timelines and deliverables.

• **Build the Blueprint:**Help design and implement the internal processes and engineering practices for a high-growth, new functional safety organization.

• **Influence & Collaborate:**Act as a cross-functional leader, working with hardware, software, and systems teams to embed safety into the core of our tech stack.

• **Apply Standards Uniquely:**Translate industry standards (ISO, IEC, RIA) into creative, practical solutions for advanced autonomous mobile robots and high-speed distribution systems.

• **Drive Growth:**Use thehigh levelof autonomy in this role toidentifynew areas for safety innovation and personal career advancement.

• **Field Impact:**Support andvalidateunique automation setups at customer sites, ensuring our custom builds thrive in real-world production.

• **Travel up to 20%:**Visit various sites to see your designs and processes in action.

Whatyou’llneed

• **A "Builder" Mentality:**Proven experience creating processes or building functions from scratch, rather than just working within established systems.

• **Project Ownership:**Demonstratedability to manage timelines and lead complex technical projects independently.

• **Cross-Functional Influence:**Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and persuade teams across different engineering disciplines.

• **Technical Expertise:**Minimum of 5 years driving safety and compliance in complex, high-tech systems (BS in Engineeringrequired;Master’spreferred).

• **Standard Mastery:**Deep knowledge of ISO 13849, IEC 61508, or RIA R15.06, and the ability to apply them in non-traditional ways.

• **Autonomy:**A self-starter who thrives when given a goal and the freedom todeterminethe best path to reach it.

Our environment

• Up to20%of travel may berequired. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

• The employeeis responsible forowning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

The base range for this position in the posted location is $120,000.00 - $165,000.00 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
